Last Week…

November 28, 2011

Dear all,

This is the last entry I’ll make on my mission.

This last week, has been a filled with mixed feelings. I guess a quote from Charles Dickens’ Tale of Two Cities, describes it quite well.:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us…"

All the good and bad things, positive and negative have been flooded into my mind…but then it is at this point, we can choose what we do with all these emotions and feelings. For me personally, I choose to look at the positive in all things, "having a perfect brightness of hope in all things".

Everything that has a beginning, always have an end.

Unfortunately that applies to even the best of things, and my mission has been the best thing to happen to me in life, thus far.

I’ll treasure every moment of it, I’ll treasure the friendships that I’ve forged, I’ll treasure every person that I’ve grown to know and love here in Toronto, and especially the wonderful members who have shown such Christlike love to me over the last 2 years. It has been a real privileged to serve in the Markham Ward for a whole 18 months!

These two years has strengthened my testimony by leaps and bounds, has brought me close to my Saviour, given a clearer knowledge on the purposes of God, and how we fit into His plan!

For those in the UK, I’ll see all on Saturday morning and later on…

For those in Toronto…we will meet again…someday.

Fate brough us together through the opportunties to share the gospel…we will meet again…(hopefully before we meet at God’s feet!)

Love

Elder Lau

I guess the next entry, when I get back home will be reflecting on my experiences here…a new stage in life…

So much to do, so little time!

November 21, 2011

Only one week left….when people say "there is so much to do, so little time", it doesn’t really daunt on me until I see the end in sight myself, thats how I managed to a full week of sleepless nights before every deadline. But I feel a different sense of urgency here…it is not my own personal benefits, but other’s salvation at stake! Plus, I wanna help, and becomes sometime overbearing, to help my two trainees as much of I learnt in 2 years as quickly as possible, and it could lead to everybody feeling the stress.

So last p-day, meet with my mandarin teacher, Cindy…a most wonderful member in the Bayview ward, and a good friend for lunch, as kinda a farewell, took her to a place to eat taiwanese beef noodles and taiwanese food, it was cool, coz I know where to all sorts of food, and she haven’t had the chance to eat it since she came to Toronto, it was a wonderful 2 hrs that with couple of missionaries that knew her well, just chatted and reminisced about the last past two years. The food was good, the atmosphere, and the company was great. On top of that, she gave me a most wonderful gift and a thank you card…I was so touched by that.

So in the last week, my trainees felt the weight of the extra workload and stress, and we had to have a good sit down and talk, because my sense of urgency for them to become independent turned into more of a burden for them…(give me some slack too, it’s my first and last time training new missionaries) So we had a good talk, then had a nice meal at Korean restaurant to restore our energies for the night ahead. So just couples of pictures of Elder Lee, before and after…there were a lot of bones!

So this p-day is more of eating out, along with balancing my time doing other necessary tasks! So busy busy, but I didn’t wanna fail to deliver on my word, so a much longer entry compare to last week!

In this last week, one thing I’ve resolved to do is to so my dear companions something I’ve only recently fully learnt, the only way to do missionary work is the Lord’s way, the way that is prescribed in the Preach My Gospel and the Book of Blessings (missionary handbook), I hope to show them the blessings of obedience… man…I had to turn down 2 dinner appointments to stick to the rules, if you know me at all, you would know how much I love food! But nevertheless, I firmly believe that "sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven."

Until next week for my last entry here in the mission field…

Take Care, have a great week!

Two years and going strong…

November 7, 2011

So this week, on the 3rd Nov 2011, I’ve past my 2 year mark on my mission, I’m super happy that I get a bit of "bonus" time. So knowing that, I was compelled to go and bear my testimony at fasting testimony meeting on Sunday at Markham, it was the 3rd time I went on the stand I think during sacrament meeting, I don’t recall ever giving a talk at Markham, I did a opening prayer once, introduced myself when I got there for the first time, a long time ago now it seems, and now…last sunday, bearing, maybe my farewell testimony at Markham, it was emotional man…I almost cried…my voice was choking up and everything….seeing all these wondeful people that I’ve come to know and love…and I’ll be leaving all of them soon… I really feel like I will miss them, in fact, my companion Elder Lee commented that it seems I’m missing serving my mission in Toronto already…no matter what, I know when I leave, I will be leaving with a very heavy heart. ڬ۫HگuY|n˱o}C

Something to dampen my spirits is that throughout the last week, I’ve been suffereing from a bug of some sort, probably a common cold…but it just keeps bugging me…mild coughs, stuffy nose….just plain annoying. But had a really intense but happy day yesterday, started with my emotional experience at church, had a few investigators at church, had appointments the whole night…ending with an unexpected but wonderful dinner at Ling’s place. Her mum cooked up some , "longevity noodles(?)", Taijin speciality, and Elder Lee was particularly happy, he loves Taijin food, because both of his parents are from there…so hopefully the Taijin connection can help build a relationship with Ling’s mum, and help her learn about the gospel…also Elder Huston was having so much fun on Ling’s electric guitar last night…

So just upload some pictures from last night…not much meat there, and lots of veg…it tasted good…ate so much…yummy yummy. This world would be so different without good tasting food…brings meaning to life!

Anyway, time is running short, got couple of meals to cook for people this week! Yes, I’m trying to utilise what little talent I have to bless people, so gotta head home now to cook…have a good one!

Take care!

Lots of Love

Elder Lau
